Lahti has one of the world's most well-known sports centres. The Ski Stadium with its ski jumps, together with the Ski Museum, Great Hall, Trade Fair Hall, Ice Stadium and Central Sports Field, form a unique forum for top national and international events. The Lahti Ski Games, for example, attract tens of thousands of spectators every year to the area of the ski jumps. The games weekend is Finland's biggest winter sports carnival.
In winter, the countryside of the Salpausselkä ridge offers a varied network of trails for fitness skiers; in summer, the Lahti region has a wealth of cycling and walking routes in an environment of natural beauty. The ski slopes at Messilä, for their part, provide a splendid setting for downhill enthusiasts.
