The museum is a specialized museum of military history presenting wartime medical care from front-line conditions to military hospitals. The exhibition concentrates on the wars fought by Finland between 1939-1945, but there is also a department of modern military medicine.
Visitors can see war-time nurses and doctors in rooms presenting field and military hospitals wit] original furniture and equipment. The museum includes also sections on war-time hospital trains.
The exhibition "Children of War" presents the evacuation of Finnish children during World War II to Sweden, Denmark and Norway. "The Long Road Home" is an exhibition presenting the work of searching for the remains of fallen Finnish soldiers in Russia, which began in 1992. This interesting and instructive series of exhibitions is shown to the public in an architecturally unique historical setting.

The special features of the church include two aisles, star vaults with embossed ring ornaments and wooden carvings of historical importance. Entry to the church is through an Empire-style bell tower designed by C.L. Engel. The decoration of the west gable is among the most beautiful in Finland.
